Ongula’s Pioneer Volunteer

Posted on Wed June 15, 2016.

Voluntourism – we started with a lot of research, visits, meetings and trainings to come up with a educational project, which deals with the need of English, Mathematic and Computer literacy in the rural area of the Ohangwena region.

In 2016 we were busy to set up the yurts, had some final meetings with the Kauluma Combined School and gave everything the final touch.
End of April – the moment had come to welcome our first volunteer at Ongula, we were excited, nervous and happy to start with our Voluntourism project.

Christofina stayed with us for one week and it was an interesting, funny and informative time for both of us. That week when she was volunteering we had school holidays but Sarah, a teacher from the Kauluma School, gave lessons to the Grade 10 learners and Christofina was part of it. She went to the school every morning until lunchtime and after a proper meal she started with the homework corner in our Ongula Community Centre. School kids with different Grades attended lessons in English and Mathematic in the afternoon.

That week was definitely to short, the learners at the school and the kids in the afternoon class have taken Christofina to their hearts and it was hard to say “Goodbye”.

We would like to say: Thank you, Christofina, for being our first Volunteer, to proof us we are on the right way and to show us that there is really a need in helping the school kids with English and Mathematic. We hope to see you again and wish you all the best for your future.
